With heart and hands, Guiglo
The “With Heart and Hands” project offers orphaned children in Côte d’Ivoire a safe home and access to education, while sustainable sources of income such as a vegetable garden and small businesses ensure the home’s financial independence. It not only promotes the children’s independence, but also strengthens the local community and creates a role model for sustainable development.
The Project
Every day, orphaned children, many from Liberia, cross the border into Côte d’Ivoire in the hope of safety and a better future. Instead, they often end up homeless on the streets. The “With Heart and Hand” project aims to provide these children with a safe home and a better future. The plan is to build a 600 m² home that offers hygienic and child-friendly living conditions. In addition to creating a safe space for the children, sustainable sources of income are to be established for the home, such as a chicken coop, a vegetable garden and small businesses, for example for the production of cakes and ice cubes. These measures ensure the long-term financial independence of the orphanage and promote the independence of the residents.
Partnerships with local schools give the children access to education, which not only provides them with knowledge but also social integration. They can make friends and become actively involved in the community. In addition, they learn practical skills such as agricultural techniques and basic business management, which enable them to have a self-determined future. The caregivers are also strengthened through training in accounting and sales to ensure the orphanage’s economic sustainability.
The project not only creates protection and prospects for the children, but also has a positive impact on the surrounding community. It strengthens the local economy, promotes social integration and serves as a model for sustainable development projects in the region. With its comprehensive support in the areas of education, economic independence and decent housing, the project lays the foundations for a better future and shows that every helping hand can make a difference.
