Digital reading assistance, Offenbach
In this project for digital reading assistance, the reading and language skills of children and young people are supported through innovative approaches. The fun of reading and the good feeling that someone outside the family is taking time alone for the child are conveyed in a playful way.
Project Background
Reading and language skills are the basis for education. Particularly in disadvantaged families, this competence is poorly developed and requires support which parents and teachers cannot always provide. Without support, children lose the fun of education and limit their opportunities for a good school leaving certificate and career choice. As a result, reading and spelling difficulties become a lifelong obstacle in working life. The “Digital Reading Assistance” project actively supports the reading and language skills of children and young people through visits to schools. In the process, every child receives the same high-quality combination of personal, weekly mentoring, a tablet and great reading material. Together with a reading app, the 1:1 principle of reading promotion is transported into the digital age. In order to still enable children to receive support in times of Corona-related school closures, a special digital offering was developed for this purpose so that reading lessons can take place regardless of location.
Target Group
The main target group is children and young people with reading and spelling difficulties.
Project Goals
By promoting reading and language skills, the children and young people achieve a better school-leaving qualification and thus have better access to working life. The children improve their reading and language skills, their own empathy, acceptance of other opinions and their ability to change perspectives. Children learn how to use digital devices, information, and location-independent conversations.
What are you supporting
With your support, the project will reach even more children and young people and enables them to improve their reading, language, digital and social skills.
