Dancing creates self-confidence, São Paulo
The local organization has been doing social youth work for more than 30 years in order to prepare children and adolescents for life by offering a wide range of educational opportunities but also, for example, by providing therapy for violent trauma.
Project Background
The “Programa Comunitário da Reconciliação” began in 1986, as a joint initiative of women from the Catholic Church of the Vila São José district and women from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of São Paulo. In the spirit of freedom, mutual respect, tolerance and dialogue, it began its activities at that time, with the aim of creating a space and offers at the service of the local community. The neighborhood of São José is a poor district, where there are hardly any educational opportunities for children and young people. For this reason, Reconciliação has focused its work in the area of social, educational, recreational, sports and cultural assistance. The organization offers social protection to children and young people at risk and promotes the development of their potential, thus enabling them to achieve autonomy, personal responsibility and participation in society by strengthening family and social relationships.
Target Group
The project is aimed at all children and adolescents of the São José neighborhood. By actively involving families with home visits and events, they also benefit from the work of Reconciliação.
Projet Goals
Through the support of help alliance, the offer for the children and adolescents will be supplemented by dance training or dance therapy as a specific, pedagogical form of body work. For this, among other things, costs for the fee for the dance therapist will be incurred. The training is to take place in a specific area of the Reconciliação, which is roofed over, as well as open at the sides, which is important in view of ventilation and the number of children participating (not least in the context of the Corona pandemic). The renovation of the roof represents a particularly sustainable measure here, as this open “hall” will then be permanently available to the children and young people of the facility for sports and exercise – independently of the dance training offered.
What are you supporting
With your support, the offer of the Reconciliação will be expanded sustainably in order to give even more children and young people opportunities for self-development.
