Happy Child Education Center officially opened

The school gives 100 children access to education

The Happy Child Education Center was officially opened on 21 January and now provides 100 children with a school education. Cargo Human Care, the Regine Sixt Children’s Foundation and the help alliance, represented by Managing Director Andrea Pernkopf, were equally responsible for the construction of the preschool. Operation and maintenance will now be carried out by the local Anglican Church

It was a very emotional moment for the approximately 150 invited guests on site when Dorothea von Boxberg, Lufthansa Cargo Executive Board Member Product and Sales, Fokko Doyen, President of Cargo Human Care and project manager help alliance, Bishop Timothy Ranji of the local Anglican Church and the German Ambassador Annett Günther opened the preschool in Nairobi. In her speech von Boxberg expressed her gratitude to teacher Tabitha Njuguna for her commitment and inspiring others to help as well.

The teacher’s passion was clearly felt when she explained that education was the only thing they could give the children to show them a better side of life. “My engagement for kids comes from the bottom of my heart,” she added.

Fokko Doyen was also visibly pleased with the energetic support from all sides, which makes such projects possible and creates a better future for children in the slum areas of Nairobi. During his moderation he quoted John F. Kennedy: “Every child without education is a lost child”.

In addition, an exciting supporting program with music and performances by the children rounded off the successful event before the excited children were allowed to enter the new classrooms for the first time. Not surprising, but fascinating at the same time, were the career aspirations of the new students: pilot and doctor were the most heard.
