Great help for children in need in India
Mastercard and Miles & More support help alliance again with successful donation campaign
For the third year in a row, the two companies Mastercard and Miles & More have launched a joint donation campaign for help alliance. For every flight booking with Lufthansa, SWISS or Austrian Airlines paid for with a Lufthansa Miles & More credit card between December 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021, Mastercard, in cooperation with Miles & More, donated two Euros. In this way, a total of 200,000 Euros was collected for the project work of help alliance – the donation campaign was a great success. With the motto “Children need a future”, the amount collected this year will benefit disadvantaged children in three help alliance projects in India. “We are very pleased, especially in these challenging times, to have Mastercard as a committed partner at our side so that we can continue to support help alliance projects with the Lufthansa Miles & More Credit Card,” says Sebastian Riedle, Managing Director of Miles & More GmbH.
Corona pandemic exacerbates situation for needy children and young people
As a result of the Corona pandemic, the situation for needy children and young people around the world – including in India – has deteriorated further: school closures are leading to educational shortfalls and making access to quality education more difficult. Job losses or bans on work mean that young adults and their families have to get by without any income. In densely populated slums, there is still hardly any possibility of complying with physical-distancing measures, food prices are rising very sharply in some places, and in some cases even access to clean drinking water or medical care has become impossible. For Andreas Mechler, Vice President at Mastercard Europe SA, it was therefore particularly important to continue the donation campaign this year:
“Especially in the Corona pandemic, it is more important than ever that needy children and young people have access to basic things such as meals, hygiene and, of course education. Because education is the foundation for a sustainable development. Through the joint campaign with Miles & More and help alliance, we can make a contribution to this.”
– Andreas Mechler, Vice President at Mastercard Europe SA
As help alliance we would like to say thank you for this great support and we hope that, together with Mastercard and Miles & More as strong partners at our side, we will continue to give many needy children and young people worldwide the perspective of a better, self-determined life.

The following projects were supported thanks to the donation campaign:
- Sunshine project „School Education and a Happy Childhood for Slum Children“ in New-Delhi
The Sunshine Project has been providing children with medical care, healthy nutrition and, above all, schooling since 2005. Founded by the tailor couple Kuku and Priti Arora, the after-school care center started with just 17 children; today, 250 young people are supported there. This is made possible by donations. Sponsors support a child with 15 euros per month, giving him or her the chance to lead a fulfilled and self-determined life. The Prana project in the south of the country is a model institution. In addition to school meals, a school for special needs and a tailoring workshop, Prana also offers a therapy center for children with disabilities and the so-called “Lucky Children Project. A widespread superstition that orphans and children in care bring bad luck leads to their exclusion from society. Particularly for these children the center wants to open up new perspectives and enable them to lead a happy and independent life. In Khandwa, in the central Indian state of Madhya, 20 boarding schools have been built so far. Around 2,000 children are not only taught there, they also receive food and medical care. Children who cannot be cared for by their parents or the village communities, or who have been abandoned, are thus given the chance of a better life. Pharmacies and mobile units also ensure that basic medical care is available in the remote regions. To the project page
