Outside the rainy season, the people in remote Dioundioulou in Mali lack water every day. At many airports, on the other hand, drinking bottles that may not be carried on board are simply thrown away every day. This is a waste of resources that could help in areas where water is scarce.
Together with Lufthansa, we have therefore launched an initiative that makes it possible to donate the bottle deposit for the construction of a well in Mali. Under the motto “Every drinking bottle is a piece of hope,” a collection machine specially built for the project will be set up at Munich Airport at the start of the fall vacation season in Bavaria in early November 2015: a source of donations that accepts drinking bottles of any fill level. Passengers will be able to dispose of their bottles quickly and do something good at the same time, even before the security checkpoint.
The proceeds go directly to Mali. We hope that there will be active participation so that donation sources can be set up at other airports, and we look forward to all those participating in a long-term engagement.
Bereits im Jahr 2009 haben wir einen Brunnen auf dem Schulgelände in Dioundioulou bohren lassen. In dieser Region bedeutet das für die Menschen nicht nur Zugang zu Trinkwasser. Wasser bedeutet dort noch immer auch Bildung für Kinder. Denn die Errichtung des Brunnens macht es zusätzlich möglich, die Kinder während ihres Unterrichts mit Essen zu versorgen. Ein Vorteil, der Eltern erst den Anreiz gibt, ihre Kinder in die Schule zu schicken.
Wenn jedoch der Grundwasserspiegel außerhalb der Regenzeit sinkt, fördert der Brunnen kein Wasser mehr. Das tägliche Schulessen ist damit nicht mehr sichergestellt. Dies ist für uns besonders tragisch, denn nicht zuletzt durch die zusätzlichen Mahlzeiten ist es uns nach Jahren gelungen, die Bedeutung von Bildung zu stärken.
Gemeinsam mit Lufthansa planen wir nun, den Brunnen zu vertiefen und weiter auszubauen.
